Flooding is continuing to affect areas across Lincolnshire and Newark.

A major incident was declared across Lincolnshire yesterday as emergency services handled a high number of calls, it remains in place today (7th Jan).

The Lincolnshire Resilience Forum have said:

"There were isolated incidents of flooding overnight at Boston and Greatford, with some residents being moved upstairs for safety. "

The situation is being monitored, while water levels in many levels are improving,

The East Midlands Ambulance service has also declared a critical incident due to the number of calls they have received.

Nearly 200 properties have been affected by flooding and there continues to be concerns about the risk of 'overtopping' at the South Delph and also the possible impact of high tide on the South 40ft Drain at Boston.

A number of flood warnings and alerts remain in place, while temperatures are expected to dip below zero again today.

Mororists are being urged to drive carefully where there may be surface water and to not avoid any road closures.

Lincolnshire Police Ch Insp Gary Brockie said:

“Although the situation is improving, there are some key risks that we need to monitor over the next couple of hours before we can confidently downgrade from a major incident.

“Teams from the Police, Fire and Rescue, Lincolnshire County Council, the Environment Agency and District councils are out in our communities working hard to keep residents safe and we would urge people to monitor the relevant websites for updates and to heed advice where required.”
