The Environment agency is promising a full investigation into the causes of flooding across Lincolnshire last week but it could take up to a year.
Homes in Grantham, Boston, parts of South Lincolnshire and a few others elsewhere were impacted after nearly a months worth of rain fell in just a few hours.
Morgan Wray is the environment agency's flood risk manager for Lincolnshire.
He says it's not yet clear exactly why certain areas have been badly affected.
We will consider if there's anything we can do to help mitigate against that flooding at some point in the future
He told us: "It's a little early to say at the moment."
"After all flooding like this we have asset inspectors that go and inspect our flood defences and they'll be compiling a list of any issues or defects in our defences."
"It can take any time up to a year - particularly at the moment where a vast number of communities across Lincolnshire have been impacted by flooding."
"Obviously after that we will consider if there's anything we can do to help mitigate against that flooding at some point in the future."
Across Lincolnshire as a whole since 2015 we've spent over 200 million pounds on flood improvement projects
"But that will have to come after some investigation in the meantime."
"We had 40 to 50 millimetres of rain - which is a lot of rain for this time of year on an already wet patch."
"In a typical month we would expect to see around 60 millimetres of rain so it's getting on for nearly a month's worth of rain - over that part of Lincolnshire."
"We're doing several things."
"Across Lincolnshire as a whole since 2015 we've spent over 200 million pounds on flood improvement projects - that's helped to reduce the risk of flooding to over 31 thousand people."
