Cleethorpes prepares to welcome Armed Forces community for landmark weekend

Veterans, serving personnel and military families from across the UK are preparing to descend on Cleethorpes as one of the country's biggest Armed Forces celebrations gets underway.

The three-day event, which starts on Friday, is expected to attract around 300,000 visitors, combining military displays and family entertainment with a chance to recognise the contribution of those who have served.

Organiser and Army veteran Chris Shaw says one of the things that makes the weekend special is the opportunity for the Armed Forces community to come together.

He said: "I'll see at least 60 people this weekend that I know personally over the years, and there'll be another 40 or 50 more coming who's coming for the first time."

Many veterans stay together at the event's military village, where dedicated facilities give former and serving personnel a place to meet, catch up and share experiences throughout the weekend.

Lincolnshire's long-standing military links are expected to be on full display, with flypasts, military vehicles, parades and live entertainment taking place across the resort.

Chris added: "We do it to bring tourism into the area as well as support the Armed Forces."

The weekend will feature RAF aircraft displays, including a Typhoon and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire, alongside military parades, a military village, trade stands, live performances and family attractions stretching from the seafront to Meridian Showground.

Organisers are also reminding visitors to prepare for the hot weather by bringing water, using sun cream and staying hydrated.
