Booking system set for Lincolnshire tips
It'll begin within months
A booking system is in the works for Lincolnshire recycling centres and will be implemented within months.
It’s hoped this will deal with queues getting into the county’s eleven tips as well as “tackling misuse”.
The new system is expected to begin from November, Lincolnshire County Council says, with visits remaining free.
People will be able to book on the day, with alternative booking options available for residents unable to access digital services.
Councillor Danny Brookes, the council’s executive for the environment, is due to provide an update at the full council meeting next week (Friday, September 18).
“The booking system plans to reduce congestion, improve site safety, tackle misuse by non-residents and commercial operators, and support better recycling performance,” his report says.
“Officers are now developing the implementation programme, with the system expected to go live in November.”
He has also pushed back against claims that a booking system will lead to more fly-tipping.
“This is a concern that I fully understand and one that we will continue to monitor closely.
“However, evidence from other local authorities operating comparable booking systems does not demonstrate that their introduction leads to an increase in fly-tipping.
“We will continue to monitor Lincolnshire’s own data following implementation and respond if any evidence of an adverse impact emerges.”
The council says that the amount of waste which the tips deal with has increased dramatically over the last few years.
The centres receive more than 1.2million visits per year, creating 66,700 waste – 50 per cent more than in 2021.
A business angry about constant queues outside Lincoln’s recycling centre on Great Northern Terrace blocked the entrance in protest during the summer.
Councillor Natasha Chapman, who represents the area on the county council, previously told the Local Democracy Reporting Service she’d noticed longer queues.
“A few years ago, it used to be the case that you could make several trips a day if you were clearing out your house,” she said.
“Now you tend to make just one because of how long it takes.”
