With the hot weather set to peak at 25 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, people in Lincolnshire are being reminded to not underestimate the dangers of a dip in open water.

Cold water shock remains a leading cause of drowning, and can effect even experienced swimmers.

We're been speaking to Amanda Matson from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue.

"Absolutely never swim alone, don't drink alcohol if you're swimming," said Amanda.

"Avoid walking close to or near water if you have been drinking alcohol, to avoid any slips or falls.

"If children are around water, please ensure they're supervised."

The high temperatures can also lead to more people socialising and doing activities by water - such as running, fishing or drinks with friends.

This can increase the risk of people falling into open water by accident.

Amanda tell us what to do in this situation: "Do not panic. Extend your arms and your legs and float on your back until the affect of the cold water shock has passed."

"It can be so tempting to use open water to cool down, but there are so many hidden dangers to open water."
