Police are investigating after threatening messages were reportedly sent to students at John Whitgift Academy in Grimsby through a social media platform.

As part of the investigation, a 13-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of sending communications containing threats to kill or cause serious harm.

She has since been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

Officers were alerted on Saturday, 11th October 2025, and enquiries are now ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Neighbourhood Policing Chief Inspector Alasdair Booth said: “Due to the nature of the messages, we are thoroughly investigating, and officers are working closely with the school to determine the full circumstances surrounding the report.

"I understand the concern and alarm this will have caused parents, pupils and the local community. However, at this stage, I would like to offer my reassurance that we have found no evidence to suggest the threat is credible or that there is any viable risk to the school or its students.”

Chief Inspector Booth added: “There will be an increased police presence at the school and in the surrounding area to provide reassurance and anyone with any concerns is encouraged to come and speak to us.”

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Humberside Police via the non-emergency number 101, quoting log 278 of 11th October.
