New figures have revealed one hundred people were killed, or seriously injured, on Lincolnshire’s roads in the first quarter of this year.

The Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership (LRSP) said that this figure was higher than the first quarter of 2025, with 83 people killed or seriously injured between January and March of last year.

But the figure is down from 110 for the final quarter of last year – between October and December 2025.

At a Lincolnshire County Council meeting on Monday, September 14, LRSP manager Steve Batchelor explained: “We do have a very unique mixture of issues that we face in this county.

“So, nearly 9,000km of predominantly rural single carriageway, very little in terms of dual carriageways and motorways – which we know are inherently safer roads anyway.

“That mixture of tourism, agriculture, haulage vehicles coming from the south east or the Humber all mixes on those roads in a not particularly good way.

“It’s also a very appealing route for motorcycle riders – which we know are inherently risky.”

Mr Batchelor also explained that LRSP has also seen an increase in the number of people using e-scooters and e-bikes being illegally driven on roads and on footpaths in Lincolnshire.

He said: “We do know that e-scooters and e-bikes are becoming more prevalent on the road and on the highway.

“We do know that they present a safety challenge, both to users and to others and it’s an area of work that we’re very keen to try and promote.

“Lincolnshire Police is undertaking days of action. A number of those have happened across the county, where vehicles have been seized.

“We also realise that there’s a big education piece there as well. It’s now on our curriculum in secondary schools and there are posters and leaflets available, on the Lincolnshire Police website as well, for people to get information about the legality and how they can be used.”

Mr Batchelor went on to say that the LRSP has ‘revamped’ its school curriculum, in an attempt to improve road safety among young people.
