World War II grenade found in Preston

The bomb disposal unit were called out last night after members of the public found a grenade under a bridge in Walton-le-Dale.
The two civilians found it using a metal detector at the River Ribble at the bottom of London Road yesterday afternoon (25th January).
Lancashire police said:
"Royal Logistic Corps Bomb Disposal attended and confirmed it was from WW2 and found to be inert. We are grateful for the fast response from bomb disposal."
At the time, police were urging the public to avoid the area on Twitter:
"We are currently at the scene of an ongoing incident in Victoria Road, Walton-le-Dale.
"Police were called around 5pm today to a report an item, possibly a grenade, had been found under the bridge.
"Officers are at the scene while the item is assessed.
"Please avoid the area."
The road has since reopened.
