Woman jailed for more than 10 years after Penwortham knife attack
The assault on a stranger occurred outside a pub
A 51-year-old woman has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for a knife attack on a man outside a pub in Penwortham.
The incident took place at the Black Bull pub on Pope Lane on 23rd August last year.
The victim, described as a man in his late 50s, was enjoying drinks with his family when the unprovoked attack happened.
Estelle Whalley, formerly of Hawksbury Drive, Penwortham, approached the group, purportedly asking if their day had been enjoyable.
As the man turned to respond, Whalley produced a small kitchen knife and stabbed him in the shoulder, head, and back.
Whalley did not flee the scene and was arrested by Lancashire Police officers upon their arrival.
The victim was hospitalised and treated for his injuries.
Whalley had previously pleaded guilty to Section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm during a hearing in February.
At Preston Crown Court last week on 22nd April, Whalley received a sentence of 10 years and two months, including six years and two months in prison and an additional four years on extended licence.
Detective Constable Joanna Crichton from Preston CID highlighted the seriousness of knife crime, saying:
“This was an unprovoked attack by Estelle Whalley on a man who was a stranger to her.
“He was enjoying a drink with family members when Whalley without warning pulled out a knife and stabbed him three times.
“The consequences of using a knife as a weapon can be devastating, and Lancashire Police will take all reports of knife crime seriously and thoroughly investigate them in order to bring offenders to justice.”
