Woman arrested after suspected arson at Accrington property

Emergency response launched after reports of fire and refusal to leave home in Avenue Parade

A woman has been arrested after a suspected arson attack at a property in Accrington.

Lancashire Police were called at 7:04am today (Sunday 17 May) to an address in Avenue Parade, Accrington, following reports of arson at a residential property.

Officers were told that a woman inside the property had allegedly set fire to a set of curtains and was refusing to leave the premises.

In response, police established a cordon around the address while the situation was contained.

At 10:13am, officers entered the property and detained the woman inside.

A 31-year-old woman has since been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

She remains in police custody as enquiries continue.
