Authorities are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a tragic collision on the A59 at Horton that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

The incident occurred shortly before 3pm on Wednesday, 18th March, near the layby at Dick Turpin's Snack Bar.

Emergency services responded to the site where an Audi S4 car and a Suzuki GSX800 motorbike, both traveling toward Gisburn, had collided.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 70s, sustained a head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Det Sgt Stuart Hart from the Collision Investigation team extended sympathies to the motorcyclist's family and expressed the importance of witness contributions to the investigation.

“First and foremost, my thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the motorcyclist at this most distressing and sad time," Hart said.

"They are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

"As we investigate the collision, we are appealing for witnesses and anyone who was driving in the area around the time it happened and has dashcam footage, to contact us.

"While this happened in a rural area, the A59 is a busy road.”

The driver of the Audi, aged 46, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving with excess drugs. He is currently in custody.

The A59 was closed for several hours to facilitate investigation work but reopened around 9.45pm yesterday.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from the vicinity is urged to contact police.
