An appeal for help's been made by bosses at East Lancashire Railway after vandals struck at the weekend (Sat 12/Sun 13 April).

More than £5000 worth of damage has been done with windows of carriages smashed and evidence of attempted arson too.

A spokesperson for the heritage lines says: "The heartbreaking physical damage is only part of the story, every carriage represents years of dedicated work, carried out by volunteers and supported by donations from individuals, all of whom will feel this attack on our region’s rich history keenly.

"The cost to repair the damage looks set to exceed £5000, money that could have otherwise gone towards restoration projects, community events and essential operations."
