Two men jailed for assaulting teenager with imitation firearm in Brierfield
Victim threatened and attacked in February incident
Two men have received jail sentences after a 19-year-old was attacked and threatened with an imitation firearm in Brierfield.
The incident occurred on 23rd February when the teenager was confronted by Muhammad Danish and Malik Khan upon leaving a shop on Walter Street at around 2pm.
Danish pointed a black handgun at the victim, demanding money.
Fleeing in fear, the teenager was pursued to Townley Street, where he tripped and fell.
Catching up with him, Danish and Khan kicked him repeatedly and demanded that he withdraw money from his bank account.
A member of the public intervened, ending the attack.
The victim stated he did not understand why Danish and Khan demanded money from him.
During the investigation, metal ball bearings were found at the attack scene on Townley Street.
Further ball bearings were located at Khan’s home following his arrest two days later, as well as at Danish’s home.
Danish, 20, of Walter Street, and Khan, 20, of Albert Street, both from Brierfield, appeared for sentencing at Burnley Crown Court on 19th June.
Danish admitted to attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm, resulting in a three-year and nine-month jail term.
Khan pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and possession of an imitation firearm, receiving three years and two months imprisonment.
Both men were issued 10-year restraining orders concerning the victim.
Detective Constable Louise Hanns of Burnley CID expressed concern over the offence, highlighting the danger posed to the victim and public.
"The carrying of firearms, whether imitation or capable of being fired, will not be tolerated by Lancashire Police," Hanns emphasised, assuring a thorough investigation for bringing offenders to justice.
