Teenagers die in separate collisions in Lancashire

An 18 and a 14-year-old have died in Easter weekend collisions

Two teenage boys have been killed in separate collisions on Easter Sunday in Lancashire.

An 18-year-old died after being struck by a lorry as he walked on the A623 Bay Gateway, between Mellishaw Lane and Northgate in Morecambe at around 3am Sunday 20 April.

Sgt Paul McCurrie, from the Road Policing Unit, said: “This collision has very sadly resulted in the death of a young man and my thoughts are with his family and loved ones. I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened or who has any CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch.”

A 14-year-old died after van he was the passenger in left the M6 carriageway southbound and struck a tree between junctions 34 and 33 near to university hill at around 12.15pm

No other vehicles were involved.

The van driver, a man in his 30s, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains.

Sgt Martin Wilcock, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This collision has very sadly resulted in the death of a young man and left another man with serious injuries and my thoughts are with their loved ones.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened, and who hasn’t yet spoken with police, or anyone with dashcam or mobile footage, to get in touch.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who saw the van in the moments before the collision.”
