Two teenagers have been arrested following reports that a gun was pointed at a car in Skelmersdale.

Officers say they were called at around 1.24pm on New Year's Eve to Birch Green Road in Skelmersdale.

They received reports that a firearm had been pointed at a BMW 1 Series.

They were also called to two reports of damage to properties Windrows and Willow Hey.

They believe the incidents to be linked.

Two boys, a 16-year-old and 18-year-old, have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

Detective Inspector Steve Monk said: “We are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of the incidents which we are treating extremely seriously. Any suggestion a firearm may have been used is very concerning and efforts are being made to trace all of those involved.

“While we have now made two arrests our enquiries are continuing, and I would appeal to anyone with any information or footage to come forward. You can contact us directly or you can report anonymously through Crimestoppers.”

Anyone with information is being urged to call the police on 101 and quote log 0588 of 31 December.
