Lancashire police have said a search area that was identified as of 'particular interest' in the hunt for missing Katie Kenyon has proved 'negative'.

The 33-year-old was last seen a week ago getting into a van in Burnley.

Police moved the search to a different part of the Forest of Bowland yesterday (28th April) after new information came to light from a member of the public regarding the silver Ford Transit van she was seen getting into.

But in a statement, Lancashire Police said:

"We are today continuing our search for missing Katie Kenyon

"Specialist officers are continuing to search the Forest of Bowland area and these searches will continue over the coming days.

"Katie’s family are being kept up to date with developments and they continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

"A search of an area which had been identified as of particular interest yesterday proved negative.

We will of course update you when we know more, although as I’m sure people will understand, our activity could take a number of days."

This morning, a 50-year-old man appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court charged with murder

Andrew Burfield of Todmorden Road in Burnley appeared in front of the judge via video link from Preston prison.

Burfield, of Todmorden Road, Burnley, spoke only to confirm his identity.

Judge Simon Medland QC told the defendant: "The trial then is 14th of November of this year. You are remanded in custody."

The Lancashire town is rallying behind Katie's family, who say she'll never be forgotten.

Residents are being encouraged to light a candle at 8pm for her while over five thousand pounds worth of donations have been flooding in for the family.

The Crowdfunding page was set up to raise £10k to give Katie the "send off she deserves".
