A former Lancashire police officer has been jailed for nine and a half months after admitting to perverting the course of justice.

27-year-old Samarah Kamal, of Fletcher Road, Preston, disposed of her mobile phone before meeting an officer.

On 24th July 2023 officers from the Anti-Corruption Unit attempted to contact Kamal in relation to a different matter.

They found out she had called in sick to work, and wasn't at her house when officers went round.

Phone calls went unanswered, until Kamal finally agreed to meet an officer.

In the nine minutes between this call and her arrival, she'd disposed of her phone and therefore evidence.

She was dismissed from the force in 2025.

Kamal has been jailed and her name added to the Barred List.

Det Supt Pete Reil, Head of our Professional Standards Department, said: “Samarah Kamal’s dishonest conduct fell well short of what the public would expect of a serving police officer. Quite rightly, it has resulted in a criminal conviction and dismissal from her privileged role as a police officer.”
