Rossendale Police, working in partnership with a number of local agencies, carried out another successful day of action on Wednesday 22nd October, responding directly to issues raised by residents across the borough.

In the morning, officers were on patrol near several primary schools after concerns were highlighted through the Lancashire Talking survey about child safety and illegal parking during busy drop-off and pick-up times. Parents and pupils were spoken to about the importance of parking responsibly and staying safe around schools.

Speed enforcement checks were then carried out on Burnley Road East, Burnley Road at Weir, and New Line. During the operations, four Section 59 warnings were issued to motorists driving in an anti-social manner. Parking enforcement was also undertaken in Bacup alongside Lancashire Parking Services, resulting in four penalty tickets being issued following previous warnings in recent weeks.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team later joined forces with Trading Standards for an enforcement visit to a Rawtenstall shop after reports from residents about the sale of illegal tobacco. During the operation, officers seized approximately 20,000 illicit cigarettes and more than 350 illegal vapes.

Local Neighbourhood Sergeant Paul Marsden said,

“It’s great that we have been able to remove a quantity of illegal tobacco products from the streets of Rossendale.

We will continue to actively work with our partner agencies to tackle the issues and concerns of our communities, and this day of action is just one example of the work we do day-in-day-out.

We encourage the community to continue to report their concerns so that the appropriate agency can take effective action.”

The operation forms part of Rossendale Police’s ongoing commitment to community safety and partnership working across Lancashire.
