A roofer from Morecambe has been jailed for a year after scamming elderly residents out of thousands of pounds.

39-year-old Robert Macintyre carried out poor quality roofing work and misled his victims, claiming he was certified when he wasn't.

Three elderly victims in Lancashire ended up facing costly repair bills to rectify faulty work carried out by Macintyre.

Work for one married Morecambe couple, aged 76 and 77, valued at £1,600, was declared worthless.

Another victim from Morecambe, who was 78 at the time he contracted Macintyre in 2021, paid £11,500 but ended up with extensive water damage because necessary waterproofing was not completed.

Macintyre falsely claimed to have qualifications and certifications from City & Guilds, Velux, and The British Board of Agreement.

He was sentenced to 12 months in prison at Preston Crown Court after pleading guilty to offences under the Fraud Act 2006 and The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

The prosecution followed an investigation by Lancashire County Council Trading Standards regarding works conducted at two addresses between December 2021 and May 2024.
