Body found in search for missing swimmer in River Ribble

A man's body has been found in the search for a struggling swimmer in the River Ribble, Lancashire.

A man was last seen struggling in the water near Ribchester Road, Dinckley on Sunday (21st December).

Lancashire police say a body was recovered yesterday (22nd December) at around 4pm.

A rescue operation was set up and included teams from the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, the HM Coast Guard and specialist police search teams.

Formal identification is yet to take place, but officers believe the body to be that of the missing man.

A Lancashire police spokesperson said, "Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this very sad time.

"The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed onto HM Coroner in due course."
