A woman has been left with a serious eye injury after eggs were reportedly thrown at her car by a group of youths riding bikes in Rainhill.

Officers say at around 8pm on Wednesday 27 April, the woman was driving along Longton Lane when a large group of youths on bikes threw eggs at her car.

One of the eggs went through an open window and struck her directly in the right eye.

She was left with a significant injury and reduced vision.

The victim, who was said to be in a lot of pain, took a taxi to hospital.

Police say her vision is slowly improving, but she's still receiving hospital treatment.

Detective Inspector Ruth Tickle said: “This mindless act by a group of youths may seem harmless to some, however it was dangerous, and this is classed as assault. The victim has still not recovered from being hit in the eye.

“Moreover, she was driving a car at the time so she could have lost control of the vehicle, and a serious collision could have occurred. Thankfully this was not the case, and she was able to pull over and get to hospital.

“With this, I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information which can help with our investigation to please contact us."

Detective Inspector Tickle added: “I would like to appeal to parents and guardians and urge them to know where their child is, what they are up to and friends they are with. It is not only to stop them causing unnecessary distress to residents in the area, but also for their own safety and welfare.”
