Two men from the town have been arrested
A man in his fifties has died after a crash in Morecambe.
It happened on Westgate just before 6am yesterday morning (10 August) and involved a black Fiat Punto and a white Ford Mondeo taxi.
The man, who was a rear seat passenger in the taxi, was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
Two men from the town have been arrested, a 24-year-old on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving over the alcohol and drug limits, and driving while disqualified, and a 31-year-old on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Police are asking anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to get in touch.
Sgt Martin Wilcock, a Senior Investigating Officer in our Road Policing Unit, said: “As a result of this collision a man has lost his life and my thoughts are very much with his loved.
"They are being supported by specially trained officers at this extremely difficult time.
“Our job now is to establish the exact circumstances which led to this fatal collision.
"We would ask people to allow us to do that and to not engage in unhelpful speculation, particularly on social media.
“Although we have made two arrests, I want to be clear that our investigation is very much ongoing.
“With that in mind I would ask any witnesses or anyone with dashcam, mobile phone or CCTV footage that could assist us in our investigation to make contact as soon as possible.”
