New film festival being officially launched with screening this weekend

The full CineWyre Film Festival itself is a four day celebration of film which is taking place at Fleetwood’s Marine Hall next year.

There’s a chance this weekend to catch the official launch of new film festival which being staged on the Fylde coast.

The full CineWyre Film Festival itself is a four day celebration of film which is taking place at Fleetwood’s Marine Hall from February 26 to March 1, 2026.

The festival will feature four categories – Family Friendly, Documentary , LGBTQ+ andHorror/Thriller and will showcase new work.

Awards will be presented for Best Film in each strand, alongside accolades for Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and more. – and organisers sre still accepting new entries.

However, the venue will be playing host to a pre-festival launch this Sunday (august 10) at 2pm.

This special screening features a curated selection of world-class, award-winning short films, including BAFTA winners and international festival favourites.

Several films will be introduced by the filmmakers themselves, with a live Q&A offering a unique chance to hear directly from local talent.

Screening highlights include:

• End to End – Introduced by the filmmaker

• Bonfire – Introduced by the filmmaker

• Rock, Paper, Scissors – BAFTA Winner

• Sister Wives – Directed by Louisa Connolly-Burnham, starring Mia McKenna-Bruce

• Choked Up – Directed by Jill Worsley, starring Maxine Peake

• Last Chance – Multi-award-winning international hit.

A spokeman for Wyre Council, which is hosting the events, said: “Whether you’re a film lover, filmmaker, or just curious about what’s happening in your creative community, this is your chance to experience the spirit of CineWyre before the fullfestival programme rolls out.”

Councillor Lynne Bowen Leisure, Health & Community Engagement Portfolio Holder at Wyre Council says,“What a wonderful event to come to Marine Hall, we are all excited to have something like this for our community to participate in and enjoy.”

Festival Director Ed Greenberg said: “CineWyre is about more than just watching films—it’s about building a community of storytellers and film lovers. Marine Hall offers the perfect setting to celebrate the power of cinema in all its forms.”

Tickets are limited and prices: from £5.00 to £9.00.

Submissions are now open via FilmFreeway, with early deadlines running through summer 2025.
