A woman in her 70s has died after an assault on Saturday

An investigation is underway, after a woman found injured at a house in Blackburn died.

At 2.14pm on 31st January 2026, police were contacted by the ambulance service which had attended an address in Redlam, where a woman in her 70s had been found unresponsive.

She was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and died on Monday (February 2nd).

As part of their investigation, they arrested a 75-year-old man from Blackburn on suspicion of assault and, following the woman’s death, he has now been further arrested on suspicion of murder.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for information.
