The family of a Southport woman who was killed by a driver, who could barely see out of his car - says the time for talking about a solution has come to an end.

Earlier this year a coroner held an inquest into the death of Marie Cunningham and multiple others who were killed by drivers with bad eyesight.

In November 2021 friends Marie, 79, and Grace Foulds, 85, were hit by driver Glyn Jones, 67, when crossing Lulworth Road in Southport.

They both suffered catastrophic injuries and died in hospital later the same day.

Jones was jailed for seven years and four months last year.

The government has until Thursday to respond to the prevention of future deaths report.

Steve Cunningham is Marie's son..." I envisage, on day 55 and a half - somebody will do a statement, and it will just be whatever the minimum requirement is. This is not about doing the minimum requirement. You don't have to wait for 56 days."

"You just need to get the team together, you need to build a plan, you need to roll out the plan and keep people safe."

"What we're saying is, this is is a quick win - you have the processes in place already in other areas of the DVLA. Step up - do what's right, ask your teams to implement the processes that will stop this."

"This could be your mother, this could be your father, this cold be your daughter crossing the road, minding their business and being a great contributor to society. And you've got arrogant individuals who've been told not to drive, getting in the car saying I know better than you, my life is worth more than yours', and killing people on the roads."

The Prime Minister has previously said he will 'look and review' what can be done.
