Man jailed after string of shoplifting offences in Nelson
Khumbulani Nyathi pleaded guilty to fourteen counts of theft from a shop
A man has been jailed for twelve months after admitting a string of shoplifting offences in Nelson.
Khumbulani Nyathi, 28, of no fixed abode, was charged with fourteen counts of theft from a shop and four breaches of a Criminal Behaviour Order.
He appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court on Saturday 19th September, where he pleaded guilty to all counts.
Sgt Carl McCoy, from the Prosper Partnership Team, said it was "a fantastic result for the community, who will now be afforded some respite".
"This type of criminality will not be tolerated within our communities, and we will work with our local businesses to prevent these types of offences occurring as part of Operation Vulture," Sgt McCoy said.
Operation Vulture is Lancashire Constabulary's response to shoplifting across the county, backed by Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Clive Grunshaw.
According to Lancashire Constabulary, the operation involves dedicated officers carrying out hotspot patrols and increasing their visibility in targeted areas.
It also involves building partnerships with retailers across the county to share intelligence, better understand retail crime and identify more offenders, police said.
