A man has been jailed for an assault which left a Blackburn shop worker with lifelong jaw injuries.

It happened on 16th May 2024.

The victim was working a late shift at the Tesco Express in Roe Lee when he noticed a man enter the store and begin stumbling around and dropping items.

The victim approached the man, who was later identified as defendant Sam Parkington, to offer him assistance with his shopping.

Parkington immediately became aggressive and suddenly without warning punched the victim to the left of his jaw.

The victim was dazed and in pain, so took a few steps back to get away from Parkington. The defendant then left the store shouting obscenities and further threats towards the victim.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

Parkington handed himself in at Clitheroe Police Station a few days later, and admitted the offence during police interview.

Parkington, aged 29, of Calder Avenue, Billington, was charged with wounding / inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.

He pleaded guilty to the offence at Blackburn magistrates court earlier this week and was jailed for 40 weeks.

DC Tom Farrell, of Blackburn CID, said:

“This was a cowardly, unprovoked attack on a completely innocent victim who was trying to assist Parkington do his shopping. In response, and without warning, Parkington broke the victim’s jaw in a drug fuelled rage.

“Behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated in Lancashire, and we will do everything in our power to put the perpetrators of such cowardly acts before the courts.”
