A man has been charged after a dog was allegedly beaten on a street in Leyland.

Officers received numerous calls on Friday 4th August that a male had been seen repeatedly beating a puppy in the Leyland Lane Area.

A man was arrested at the scene - Matthew Cockling, 41, will appear in court in October, charged with animal cruelty.

In an update they said: "Further to our appeal, we can confirm a man has now been charged with animal cruelty offences.

"Matthew Cocklin, 41, of Leyland Lane has been charged and will appear before magistrates in October.

"We appreciate the distress incidents like this cause the community and would like to reassure the public that we take reports of cruelty to animals extremely seriously."

The puppy is now under veterinary care.
