Lancashire Police say it's lucky no-one was hurt after a van was seen driving dangerously on the M6.

The force received several calls at around 7:20pm on Tuesday 3 January after the van collided with bridges along the M6 northbound.

It weaved through all three lanes and then stopped half on the hard shoulder and half on lane one.

The driver even tried to change a bulb in the car while walking in the motorway.

The vehicle was found a short time later at Forton Services and a search uncovered drugs.

A 32-year-old man from Northwich was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

Insp Rob Conolly-Perch, of the Lancashire Roads Policing Unit, said:

"We received several reports of some extremely concerning driving. Thanks to the people who made those calls we were able to track the vehicle down quickly and a man was arrested.

"Clearly it is very lucky that nobody was injured, or worse, so to those people who saw what was happening and reported it to us, we say a huge ‘thankyou’.

"We know that a lot of people witnessed this vehicle as they drove up the M6 yesterday evening, and this will have been extremely concerning for them. We hope this offers some reassurance that we take the safety of our roads users very seriously in Lancashire."
