Police in Chorley have arrested a man, in connection with an alleged attempted murder.

Officers were called to Delamere Place at around 11:10am on Sunday (19 October) to reports of a serious assault.

Emergency services attended and a man in his 70s was taken to hospital where he remains for treatment.

A 75-year-old man from Chorley has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Following a consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, police have charged Anthony Donnelly with section 18 wounding and the burglary of a dwelling with intent to commit Grievous Bodily Harm.

He has been remanded into custody.
