Lancashire Police have announced the closure of a major slip road between Junction 9 of the M61 and Junction 2 of the M65 due to a road traffic collision.

The closure, which affects the Clayton Brook interchange, has also disrupted travel on the M65 J2 towards the M61 northbound.

Authorities have advised that eastbound traffic on the M65 remains unaffected, allowing vehicles to join the M61 heading either north or south.

The closure is expected to remain in place for some time as assessments are underway.

Police have put diversions in place and suggest motorists consider alternative routes to avoid the area.

Lancashire Police will provide updates on the situation as soon as the road is reopened.
