There are severe delays on the M6 near Preston following a multi-vehicle collision on the road.

National Highways confirmed there had been a collision on the motorway in the early hours of Wednesday (July 30th) and was causing delays.

It was later revealed that an incident had taken place between Junctions 31 and 31A, with emergency services including Lancashire Police being called to the scene.

Average speeds on approach to the site of where the crash took place were coming to just 4 miles per hour, with traffic stretching back to Junction 29 on the motorway, 4 miles away.

On top of this, the nearby M61 was also particularly congested as a result of the crash, which saw one of the lanes of the motorway being closed.

In a statement, Lancashire Police confirmed they were at the site of the crash and were carrying out enquiries.

"We anticipate that the lane will be closed for some time, whilst we make sure the road is safe and assess the situation," the force said.
