Lane restrictions on the M6 northbound near Preston will stay in place because concrete repairs are more extensive than first expected, National Highways has said.

The maintenance work is taking place between junctions 32 and 33 at Whittingham Lane underbridge.

It includes concrete repairs, waterproofing and resurfacing.

National Highways said it found the concrete repairs needed were more extensive than first expected after work started.

To help keep the work on schedule, it said it will keep the current lane restrictions in place over the coming weekend only.

It said this means there will be no overnight closures on Thursday 15th October or Saturday 17th October.

National Highways said the extra time will allow it to complete additional repairs and make sure the concrete has fully cured before the road reopens to traffic.

It said drivers may experience some congestion on Friday afternoon and asked them to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey.
