Man guilty after one-punch Blackpool pub attack caused catastrophic injuries

A man has been found guilty of grievous bodily harm after an attack which left his victim with catastrophic head injuries in Blackpool.
Preston Crown Court heard how Luke Bagshaw, 35, left a man so injured he had to relearn how to walk.
The assault happened outside the Clarence pub on Preston New Road at around 9.40pm on 14th July 2024 - the night of the Euro 24 final.
Bagshaw had been at the pub watching the game before he approached a group in the carpark having a dispute.
He was seen to punch a man in the face 'unprovoked', witnesses said.
The punch knocked the man, who was in his 50s, unconscious.
He suffered traumatic bleeding on the brain, swelling and inflammation, and a two skull fractures.
He had to spend two months in hospital recovering and learning how to walk independently again.
Bagshaw of Preston New Road, Blackpool, was found guilty by a jury following a trial of Section 20 causing grievous bodily harm.
He's due to be sentenced on 28th September 2026.
