Two jailed after beating man with metal bar in Lancaster

Two men have been jailed for an attack in Lancaster which saw a man pinned down and repeatedly hit in the face with a metal bar.

The incident happened on 2nd January 2024 on Denny Avenue on the Ryelands estate.

23-year-old Alex McKenzie and 43-year-old Alexander Burgmans were found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent at Preston Crown Court.

They've been sentenced to five-and-a-half years and five-years in prison respectively.

The victim, a man in his 30s, suffered four facial fractures and required surgery.

“I’ve got you now ain’t I lad.”

A Lancashire police spokesperson said, "As the victim walked past the house of a friend of McKenzie, he heard three people shout ‘He’s there, get him’.

"McKenzie struck him in the face with a metal bar, that causing him to fall to the ground and briefly blacking out.

"When he came round, Burgmans and another man were pinning him to the ground, with McKenzie hitting him another few times in the face with the metal bar.

"McKenzie was heard to say: “I’ve got you now ain’t I lad.”"
