Lancashire Police refers itself to IOPC after missing man found dead in Preston hospital
Death of 30-year-old not treated as suspicious, investigation ongoing
Lancashire Police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) following the death of a man in his 30s at Royal Preston Hospital.
Officers were summoned to the hospital on Sharoe Green Lane at 1.07pm on 18th June after the man was discovered unresponsive in public toilets.
Sadly, the man was declared dead at the scene, and his death is not being treated as suspicious.
Background and Police Actions
The man, whose name has not been released by police, was reported missing on 17th June at 11.06pm.
Efforts were underway to locate him prior to the incident.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police commented on the unfortunate event: "We were called at 1.07pm on June 18 to the Royal Preston Hospital, Sharoe Green Lane, Preston, to a report a man had been unresponsive in public toilets."
"Very sadly, the man aged in his 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts are very much with his family and loved ones at this distressing time."
In light of the circumstances surrounding the man's disappearance and subsequent death, Lancashire Police have referred the matter to the IOPC.
"The man had been reported as missing at 11.06pm on June 17, and enquiries were ongoing to find him. As a result, we have referred ourselves to the IOPC," the police added.
While the man's death is not believed to be suspicious, the police will pass a file to HM Coroner in due course as part of the routine procedure.
Investigations continue as authorities seek to bring closure to the tragic situation.
