Over 70 police cadets in Lancashire thanked during first ever National Cadets Week
Commissioner meets young people at force headquarters
Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner has thanked over 70 young people for being part of the policing family during the first ever National Cadets Week.
Clive Grunshaw spoke to the county's police cadets at Lancashire Constabulary's headquarters.
He talked about his role in setting the strategic direction for the force and the key priorities he is delivering to help make the county safer.
He also highlighted the value of being a cadet, both for those taking part and for the wider public.
Mr Grunshaw took questions from the cadets and thanked them for playing an important part in Lancashire's communities.
Assistant Chief Constable Stasia Osiowy, who is the force lead for volunteers in policing, also spoke with the cadets about her pride in overseeing the programme.
Police cadets learn a range of skills and basic knowledge in a variety of policing activities.
There are 11 cadet units across Lancashire, based at colleges across the county.
Mr Grunshaw said: "Seeing so many young people together, all of whom are an important, valued part of our policing family, and having the opportunity to thank them for all they do, was a fantastic way to celebrate the first ever National Cadets Week."
He added: "Talking with the cadets and answering their questions, it was great to hear their passion and interest in policing and helping other people."
He also said: "Our communities are stronger for the events they take part in and projects they deliver, whilst also strengthening relationships between the Constabulary and the people that they are there to protect."
Assistant Chief Constable Osiowy said: "It is fantastic to see so many people volunteering as police cadets. They are part of the wider police family and make an important contribution to public confidence in Lancashire."
