A man from Chorley has been named one of the winners at this years Kings Trust awards.

Brandon Tatterstall, who's 27, was the England Young Achiever.

He struggled with his family life as a child, leading him to feel closed off and isolated. He had very few friends and was afraid of confrontation. He struggled all through his school years and into college, leaving him with few qualifications.

Brandon applied for jobs in retail, but he couldn’t find an employer willing to give him a chance. His confidence and self-esteem were at rock-bottom, and he suffered with his mental health.

After struggling with unemployment for so long, Brandon signed up for Universal Credit, seeking a job that would be long-lasting and enriching. Brandon was referred to The King’s Trust by the job centre where he completed the Get into Business Administration programme.

Brandon proved his resilience with exemplary attendance, and now he works as a Data Analyst at BAE Systems and was also nominated at the Movement to Work Social Mobility Awards 2024.

After being announced as the winner he said;

“It's an incredible feeling to win a King’s Trust Award, the fact it was for the whole of England makes it even more valuable.

“Winning the award gives me another reason alongside the many others to feel validated and reassured that I made the correct choice in taking part in the programme.

“It also makes me feel motivated to progress and develop so I can go even further in life.”

He says he hopes to inspire young people who had similar experiences into employment.

“Life is still hard sometimes, but after getting the opportunity that I was given, I have no issues taking on those hard times.”
