Lancashire children celebrated for excellence at education awards
Awards ceremony honours talented and resilient young people from across the county
Scores of exceptional young people have been recognised at the inaugural Lancashire Education and Learning Awards, held on 8th July at County Hall in Preston.
The awards celebrated the resilience, talent, and efforts of pupils across Lancashire, featuring performances from Preston & Pendle Music Centre's Beat Lab students.
Organised to acknowledge the achievements of young people, the event was attended by dignitaries including Lord-Lieutenant Amanda Parker JP and Councillor Lee Hutchinson.
Awards Highlight Remarkable Achievements
Eight award categories celebrated students' dedication, strengths, and progress.
Six-year-old Bella Greenwood from Rishton Methodist Primary School received the Lancashire Outstanding Progress Award for her resilience and growth despite facing significant challenges following a brain tumour diagnosis.
Mr Sean Steele, the deputy headteacher, praised Bella's courage and determination, highlighting the remarkable progress she has made and how proud they are of her recognition.
Primrose Snape, a six-year-old from St Catherine's Catholic Primary School in Leyland, was honoured with the Red Rose - Lancashire's Champion Award.
Primrose, who has profound visual impairment and neurological conditions, was described by Headteacher Simon Lawman as a truly deserving nominee for her bravery and inspiring presence.
Young Talent Making a Difference
Thomas Wilson from St Augustine's Catholic High School in Billington also received the Red Rose – Lancashire's Champion Award for his commitment to fundraising for the homeless.
Thomas, whose motivation stems from a personal encounter with a homeless man, has raised £5,400 across seven annual challenges, combining running and cycling to support the cause.
PE teacher Joshua Robson commended Thomas for his sustained dedication, highlighting his awareness of the homelessness crisis and his genuine desire to make a positive impact.
County Councillor Matthew Salter expressed his admiration for the award winners, acknowledging their strength and the support from their schools and families.
He emphasised the importance of believing in young people to help them achieve phenomenal success.
