Preston North End midfielder Jordan Thompson has been handed a three-match ban after kicking a water bottle which hit a Norwich fan on the head.

The incident happened at Preston's 2-0 Sky Bet Championship defeat at Norwich last weekend.

The 29-year-old was heading to the bench after being substituted in the 65th minute.

He kicked the bottle presumably to vent his frustration.

The FA said: “The midfielder’s behaviour around the 65th minute of the fixture wasn’t seen by the match officials at the time but it was caught on video, and The FA subsequently alleged that it constituted violent conduct.

“Jordan Thompson denied the charge against him, but an independent Regulatory Commission found it to be proven following a hearing and imposed the standard punishment of a three-match suspension for violent conduct.”
