Thirty years after the tragic murder of Janet Murgatroyd, Crimestoppers is renewing its appeal for information to aid the investigation.

Janet, 20, was killed on the morning of 16th June 1996 following a night out in Preston town centre.

As an independent charity, Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information provided directly to its team that leads to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

On the evening of 15th June 1996, Janet was with a friend in Preston, experiencing a day marked by the Manchester Arndale bombing and the England v Scotland Euro 96 match.

She was last seen walking alone on Fishergate before heading toward her home.

After reaching a bridge, Janet was violently attacked, ultimately succumbing to fatal head injuries.

Her body was discovered in the River Ribble on the morning of 16th June.

Crimestoppers believes someone might still possess vital information about the events of that night.

Mick Duthie, Director of Operations at Crimestoppers, said: “Thirty years on, Janet’s family and loved ones continue to live with the pain of not knowing who was responsible for her death... Your information could make a real difference in finally providing answers and justice.”

Reports to Crimestoppers remain entirely anonymous.

No identifying details are collected, ensuring absolute privacy.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or via their secure online form.

Only information provided directly to Crimestoppers will qualify for the available reward.
