Police are appealing for information after a twelve-year-old girl was left with serious injuries following a crash in Preston.

It happened on Plungington Road at around half past three yesterday afternoon and involved a grey Volkswagen Golf and a pedestrian.

The girl was taken to hospital for treatment, where she remains.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, stopped at the scene but was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by careless driving.

He is still in custody while enquiries continue.

Sergeant Ben Elliott, from the Roads Policing Unit, said the crash has left a young girl with “some serious injuries” and appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from people who stopped to help the girl at the scene but may not yet have spoken to police.
