Widespread flooding in Lancaster

Fire crews have been busy attending several flooding incidents across Lancaster following heavy rainfall affecting the region.

The Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has shared crucial safety advice, urging residents not to drive or walk through floodwaters and to turn off electrics if concerned about property damage.

Yesterday, 20th August, flooding impacted several areas, including Avondale Road and Princess Avenue.

At 9:22 AM, a fire engine from Hornby arrived at Avondale Road, assisting with water removal, drain clearance, and electricity isolation.

Approximately seven minutes earlier, a single engine from Preesall attended Princess Avenue, isolating electricity supplies and ensuring residents' welfare.

Brook Street experienced significant flooding from 8:55 AM, involving two engines from Morecambe and Carnforth.

Crews deployed light pressure pumps, handbag pumps, and scene lighting, remaining onsite for about ten and a half hours.

At 8:49 AM, three fire engines from Lancaster, Silverdale, and Fulwood responded to flooding on Willow Lane, utilizing wading poles and swift water rescue gear to secure gas and electricity supplies.

Residents are advised to stay safe and follow travel advice as crews continue to manage the impact of flooding across the county.
