Fleetwood have appointed Pete Wild as the club's new head coach following the sacking of Charlie Adam.

Wild agreed terms to take over at the Sky Bet League Two side on Christmas Eve following spells in charge at Oldham, Halifax and Barrow.

"I am really excited to have the opportunity to manage such a progressive football club," said the 40-year-old, whose new side are 18th in the table after a run of just one win in their last 11 league games.

"Although discussion have moved quickly, both myself and Adam (Temple, assistant coach) feel like there is a clear direction from everyone at the football club and we really feel we can support that journey.

"We can't wait to meet everyone and get fans, staff and players moving in a forward direction."

Wild will attend Town's game with Chesterfield on Boxing Day before formally taking charge on December 27.

First-team coach Matt Lawlor, assisted by Nathan Pond and Mark Yeates, will take charge of the team on Boxing Day, while former first-team coach Ross Wallace has now left the club.
