Fleetwood's Wyre Neighbourhood Policing Team has received national recognition, winning the Crime Prevention Award at VISAV’s National Community Engagement Awards 2026 for their efforts in reducing organised crime through the Prosper Partnership initiative.

Since 2023, Wyre Police have collaborated with local partners to dismantle organised crime groups (OCGs) in the area as part of the Clear, Hold, Build strategy. The approach aimed to rid Fleetwood of criminal activity and ensure a safe community environment.

Through robust Operation Warrior activities, police conducted drug warrants and implemented closure orders on problematic properties. They maintained these efforts with high visibility patrols, resulting in 251 arrests, over 100 years of sentencing collectively, and confiscation of £370,000 in cash and £4 million in drugs.

Community collaboration and impact

The Prosper Partnership united organizations including local councils, housing providers, schools, charities, and police to create a community-driven safe environment in Fleetwood. Initiatives like Empower Her Girls Hub, youth diversion activities, and enhanced CCTV installations contributed to this success.

An overall 12% decrease in reported crime and improved public perception of local police engagement are noteworthy achievements since the strategy's inception.

Local Policing Chief Inspector Martin Wyatt, along with Councillor Roger Berry and Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw, praised the team and partnerships for their relentless work in making Fleetwood a vibrant and safe place to live.

Strategy expansion

The Clear, Hold, Build project, initially covering Park and Mount wards, will continue into 2026, expanding to include all Fleetwood wards. The successful strategies in Fleetwood are now being extended to other areas across Lancashire, reinforcing the commitment to tackling crime and fostering community resilience.

Residents and community organizations are urged to report suspicious or criminal activity anonymously to Crimestoppers or via the Lancashire Police website. For more information on the Prosper Partnership and strategy implementation, visit Lancashire Police’s campaign page.
