Wyre Council has confirmed plans to keep the Fleetwood–Knott End ferry service operational following successful negotiations with its current operator.

The council engaged in extensive talks to explore feasible solutions aimed at maintaining this crucial service for the community.

These efforts have resulted in a short-term agreement, ensuring certainty for residents, businesses, and visitors in the area.

Councillor Michael Vincent, Leader of Wyre Borough Council, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made: “Wyre Council’s officers and Cabinet have been working tirelessly to secure the future of the ferry, and I am delighted that we have been able to agree a way forward that will see the service continue.

"While Lancashire County Council contributes half of the subsidy, it is Wyre Borough Council that has fought hard for this service and ensured it will continue."

The council acknowledges the ferry's vital role as a transport connection and an integral part of the local identity.

Efforts will continue to develop a sustainable long-term strategy, with ongoing updates to be provided as these plans evolve.
