Fleetwood GP to lead £20m town regeneration project
Community panel seeks members to steer decisions on local regeneration
A £20m regeneration project aiming to revitalise Fleetwood will be led by well-known GP Dr Mark Spencer, who has been appointed chair of the Pride in Fleetwood funding panel.
The Government-backed initiative will see £2m allocated annually over the next decade to improve public spaces, the high street, and community assets within the town.
Dr Spencer, an experienced GP and founder of Healthier Fleetwood, is also the chair of the Fleetwood Trust, which operates The HUB Fleetwood. With decades of involvement in community-focused initiatives, he is regarded as a strong choice for the voluntary role.
Applications to join the funding panel are now open, with residents encouraged to help shape the future of Fleetwood.
Panel aims to represent Fleetwood
The panel invites expressions of interest from individuals who live or work in Fleetwood, prioritise the community’s voice, and are committed to attending at least one board meeting each month.
In a joint statement, Blackpool North and Fleetwood MP Lorraine Beavers and Dr Spencer said: “We want the board to represent the community of Fleetwood so specific details on time commitments & meetings will be developed by the board. We hope that this creates an inclusive board that truly represents the voice of Fleetwood’s community."
Applications must include up to 400 words describing why candidates are suited to the role. Submissions must be emailed to [email protected] by 10am on 19th January 2026.
Town regeneration focus
Pride in Fleetwood is part of a wider Government project designed to give communities greater control over local decision-making and development. Residents involved will play a central role in choosing how the funding is distributed to ensure it meets the town’s needs.
The initiative is expected to make significant improvements to Fleetwood’s infrastructure and create opportunities for long-term benefits for the community.
