Police appeal for witnesses following tragic incident in Hoghton

A person's died and a child's suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash involving a train and car near Preston.

British Transport Police reported that the incident occurred in Hoghton at 8.50am on 25th June.

Paramedics and the fire service attended the scene where one person in the car was pronounced dead, while the young passenger is receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

No injuries have been reported among train passengers.

A spokesperson from North West Ambulance Service said: "teams responded to an incident in the Hoghton area of Lancashire after reports of a collision between a train and a car at 8.50am today (25 June).

"Several clinical teams attended the scene, including our hazardous area response team and two air ambulances.

"Sadly, a child has sustained life threatening injuries and has been taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for further treatment.

"No passengers travelling on the train required treatment from ambulance crews."

Authorities are urging any witnesses who have not yet spoken to the police to come forward.

Investigations into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing.

South Ribble Police are assisting with the traffic incident on Station Road and have advised people to avoid the area for the time being.
