There are fears that families in Blackburn could be left in crisis and without any way of getting food in just a matter of weeks.

The Blackburn Foodbank say that so far this year they've been handing up to 2.6 tonnes of emergency food parcels per week, which is around a tonne more than they've been getting handed in.

The foodbank say they're rapidly running out of stock and are worried they wont be able to continue to support the community.

Daisey Dumsday, from the foodbank, is warning that families could soon be left without food: "There are a lot of the people that we see that if something was to go wrong, they get a flat tyre or the fridge breaks, that's detrimental to their kind of monthly finances and then they have to turn to us.

So if we weren't here to fill that gap, you're then looking at the children, going without food themselves as well as the parents.

"And a lot of them are of school age and we are already seeing those parents are coming to us and saying, 'I'm not eating so I can feed my child'.

"So if we're not here to provide the food for that parent to eat, it's just kind of a never ending, really vicious cycle that they're going to be stuck."

So far in 2025, the foodbank have provided 22,959 meals to 2,551 people in Blackburn.

They are urgently appealing for donations to allow them to continue to provide that support and replenish their stocks.

Daisey added: "When I chatted to warehouse supervisor and I asked him how long roughly the stock will last, he said somewhere between two to four weeks and that's dependent on demand.

"If in the next two weeks we get a huge increase in people needing the support, that means that food's going to go even faster."
