Woman left with serious injuries following collision in Leigh

The collision happened at around 9pm last night and involved a police vehicle which was responding to another incident

Officers responded to a collision involving a police vehicle and two pedestrians on Wigan Road in Leigh last night (19 September).

The incident happened at around 9:08pm as the police vehicle was responding to another incident.

The pedestrians – a woman and a man - were taken to hospital. The woman, aged 57, remains in hospital with serious injuries while the man, aged 58, has been discharged with minor injuries.

The scene has been stood down this morning.

The officer driving the police vehicle is supporting the investigation. In-line with normal procedure, referrals have been made to GMP’s Professional Standards Directorate.

As part of this investigation, GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are asking for anyone with information to please come forward.

This includes anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell or mobile phone footage from the area.
